Anybody on here musicians? I play guitar and have been messing with the mandolin. Love classic country and bluegrass. One of my favorite guitar pickers is Jerry Reed, and my favorite mandolin picker is Bill Monroe of course. LOL!

I play 5- string banjo in the Scruggs style. I love bluegrass, bluegrass gospel ,  and old-time music. And some of the old country. I love Jerry Reed as well.

Favorite bluegrass band is the Stanley brothers and Ralph Stanley and the Clinch mtn. boys. but I love Flatt and Scruggs , and Bill Monroe, esp. his instrumentals. And Ricky Skaags , Alison Krause to name a few.

Also a wide- range of others.

I could talk for hours on this subject! 

I haven't met hardly anyone that listens to the old time mountain music ( where bluegrass came from ) , but I love it as well. A lot of these musicians are fairly obscure ( or dead ) but you tube has opened up a lot of it that you couldn't have heard before.

honest. I also sing. Love guitar jazz. As for who I like musician-wise, I'd

have to go with Tommy Emmanuel, Phil Keaggy, Paco de Lucia, Adrian Legg,

Al Di Meola, Leo Kottke, Satch....just too many great guitarist out there to

fairly list 'em all.

I play several brass instruments, including french horn (double and single), trumpet, mellophone, and cornet.

Crappy cell phone from a couple weeks ago.  Hang in there....I take a quick solo.

I've been playing guitar for over 50 years. Mostly acoustic these days, since I quit gigging, but there are a couple of electrics and amps gathering dust in my music room. I can find my way around a keyboard, but I'm not really a player. Same with banjo and mandolin.

You have good taste! You should check out Preston Reed if you are not familiar with him. He's sort of like Leo Kottke meets Michael Hedges (who I would assume/hope you're familiar with). I recommend the Instrument Landing, Blue Vertigo and Handwritten Notes albums if you need a starting point -- all a bit different from each other.

I play guitar myself, lot of progressive rock, and fusion. Musician wise, Frank Zappa has been my biggest influence but you may catch me playing Pink Floyd, King Crimson, John McLaughlin, and Jimmy Herring to name a few.

I learned Birds of Fire my senior year of high school and never wanted to look at a metronome ever again. You've got good taste.

Thanks! You, too! Yeah, Hedges should have been in the

list...ah well  I'll check out Reed when I have a few.

These past few years I've not played much, but my 2nd

eldest son who's a high school senior, has gotten the bug

and I've been teaching him Open D (so easy), which 

became my default tuning after a lovely fingertip injury.

(Lesser tension)

 

He's enjoying it, learning a few songs here and there like

Summer of 69, and some other "classics".

 

I used to be a worship leader at various churches for 20+

years. So a lot of my stuff is "church" and not "dead"

funeral dirge church, but lively. My main influence I'd have

to say was Phil Keaggy growing up and learning to play.

Though I'm a hack compared to him - or any of the guys

on the list. Any concert I go to - especially Tommy E, I don't

want to touch my guitar ever again, LOL.

Played guitar off and on since the 60's. Just in the last 2 months I started playing again from a 2-3 year layoff. I like classic rock, surf music, mostly anything from the 60's. Here is some guitars I have owned. Only one left is the Taylor 714 and the Fender '52 RI Tele. Really wanting another guitar with humbuckers but don't want to put out the money for another Gibson, too much fishing stuff to buy.

I heard " my last day in earth " and some " cluck ol hen "  Wish I could figure out how to post a video.

My son can play guitar , mandolin , bass , banjo , and ukelalie. He's gotten into that progressive stuff , like Chris Thile plays these days.

Thank you sir!!!! I've been playing mandolin for aound 3 months maybe. Wonderful little instrument, can't put it  down! Like to get me a Telecaster, love that country chicken pickin stuff, especially Mr. Don Rich.

Try Roy Clark on the pick in. The man could play anything.
