Kicker for Bass Tracker

Featured Replies

I have a Bass Tracker Pro 17 that I am going to upsize the motor on. I would like to utilize my existing remote steer 9.9 Merc as a kicker. I am putting a 60hp Johnson on the boat. My question would be, can i connect both the motors to be steered by the wheel or am i going to have to make the kicker a tiller steer. This is the first time I've done this so any insight/suggestions would be appreciated

I have a 20' aluminum boat with a mercury 250 pro xs & a 9.9 merc bigfoot pro kicker. They are hooked together with a tie bar that has a ball joint type connector at each end. They both steer from the wheel & tilt independently. I would suggest you find a boat dealer that is familiar with the set up to help you with the installation.

You need to be careful and not over load the transum with too much weight on your 17' Tracker. I am not sure the transum well width is wide enough to mount the kicker next to the 60 hp OB? You will need a mounting bracket, I would check on a walleye boat forums for kicker OB info.

They make a setback kicker mount which is probably the way he will have to go.

OP, There's more to it than just having room for it and whether or not you can tie them together. How are you going to start it? How are you going to get fuel to it? You will need to add a second set of forward controls. Providing it's doable, it probably won't be cheap.

You could go a different direction. You could sell the 9.9 and go with something like a transom mount Minn Kota Vantage.  It would require you to run it from the back fishing seat but in the 101 pound thrust it would run that boat well.  They use that in some big water boats like Lunds. I remember some of the guy on In Fisherman an All Linder shows having them on board.  It is a special motor with some unique advantages and it would not require the same fuel, steering  and controls issues to be solved.  Just a thought.

I also agree I am not sure your Tracker has enough beam to support that much weight.  It could be a safety concern.

i have a second set of controls, will run a second fuel line to a smaller fuel tank under deck
