Depends on the quality of aluminum and the reel.  I have aluminum gears in reels that are nearly 20 years old, and they work as well as new.

Geez, it's like you never fished for 6 hours a day when you were 12 years old with a Zebco 33 walking 4-5 miles pond hopping. Well, most of you probably didn't.

I've seen people arguing over fractions of an ounce on forums.  We're talking grams.  These people are a marketer's dream.
