Grease for aluminum gears

Featured Replies

During my annual cleaning, i noticed some of my reels with aluminum gears had a bit of a buzz. I read a few threads saying how aluminun is harder than brass and grease doesnt hold as well. Is there a "magic grease" for aluminum/alloy gears, or is Super Lube gonna cut it?

Daiwa space age grease.  Sold at TW.  Works on my ITO alphas just fine

Had mentioned in an earlier thread that I was trying TG Liquid grease.  Time will tell, but initially it has made my Ald 50  smoother than ever.

There is no magic in any lubricant. The metal type shouldn't affect adhesion. Clean the parts well and apply any quality, application appropriate grease and you'll be fine.

Abu silicote works well and is also pretty cheap. All my reels are Daiwa and have either brass or aluminum main gears. Never any issues with any of them. Don’t use hot sauce. It stains everything red and cakes up.

Take your choice I guess.  Either SuperLube, Yamaha Blue Marine, or a quality drag grease.

I don't know I like it simple, before I used hot source for all my gears aluminum or not. Now I use shimano drag grease for everything. For oil I use whatever that come with reel.

Hot sauce oil is ok but the grease cakes up too easily.

That is why I sent you my reels to deep clean after awhile LOL.
