Currently have a helix 9 si at dash, networked to a helix 7 on bow.  This works great for fishing isolated bolders found while ideling.

I want to add a structer finding device to the bow, thinking of either adding another helix and HB 360 or panoptix with a Garmin unit.

considerationsfor 360, already familiar with helix, but would need to add an network switch, and preferable another display unit.

Considerations for panoptics, i would buy the ice kit for winter (1/2 our fishing yearin MN) couldn't add waypoints on structure found and have it share to other units.

Interested in hearing who has used both or either.  What is one to do?

Remember, 360 is showing you history.  Panoptix is showing you live.

Thinking out loud, it is diffidently a trade off to showing the full 360 view around the boat in a slight delay vs. real time for a narrower field of view.

My other concern is how clear structure shows up on the panoptic.  examples on the ice show a clear crisp picture but the transducer is not moving.  I am curious how clear rocks and fish towards the bottom show up on panoptix when the transducer is moving with the waves.

Not by enough to matter, if you focus 360° in one area...

I'm puzzled as to why you would add a third Helix to show 360°?

I run a 10" at the bow, a 12" at the console, networked, and it shows up just fine on both.

I only have a 7" at my bow, I think it would be difficult to see the 360 along with the map and 2d sonar.   however, I could run that for a season, and add another unit in the future.

first world problems for sure...

Cost wise they will be very similar, I will have to add the Ethernet hub and buy a bracket to mount the 360 to my Terrova.

Buying a 7" Garmin on sale and the panoptix PS22 transducer would run me about the same overall.

thanks for the replies so far, I am still on the fence.  I think the Panoptix holds a bit of an edge because it can be used on the ice too, but I think the 360 would be a quicker learning curve.

That'd make sense - I'd agree on the 7" not being big enough.

In my case, I'd sell it and just go bigger up there, but I can't stand clutter on my decks and an extra Helix would drive me batty...about the third time a fly line wrapped itself about the extra unit, something would have to go.

I've been intrigued by Panopitx for a while, I think it's exceptionally interesting tech...but I really like the integration of Humminbird and Minn Kota (there are days when half the day the Ulterra is running from the Helix and I don't touch the remote other than to start, stop or change speeds)...and, as above, don't want more clutter aboard.
