Hey folks,

New member to bass resource, and a new bass fisherman.  Growing up, I caught probably a thousand little bluegill on a standard bobber and worm setup, but that was years ago.  After taking about 15 years off from fishing, I'm starting to pick it back up.  My wife might tell you I'm obsessed.

It's been a bit of a struggle so far, as I've never once been bass fishing with someone that had any idea of what they were doing.  On top of that, I'm stuck on docks and banks.  It's not all bad though- I caught a nice LMB (my first!) just the other day (photo uploaded- forgive the grassy fish, my son wanted to hold the fish and dropped it).

I figure I'll be checking into bassresouce quite frequently as I learn the trade.  I've read and watch plenty regarding bank fishing tips, but I thought I might ask the forum- what baits do you guys recommend for a land locked beginning angler?

   Thanks all!

Respectfully,

Tim

Hello and welcome. Your wife should consider you lucky if your only obsessed. That would be an understatement for most of us on the forum.

Welcome! :)

Welcome, I've spent a lot of time out there on the bank myself in highly pressured ponds. I find the most luck near structure, or anything about the pond that stands out and looks different. As far as bait selection goes its a matter of trial and error and that can change daily depending on conditions. A good starting place for me was soft plastic stick baits. There are many different techiniques to learn, and that is all part of the fun. Keep fishing, and good luck from the bank!

Howdy Tim and welcome to our fishing family! I do the majority of my fishing from the bank and the baits I've found to be effective from there are 3/8oz and 1/2oz chatterbaits, Zoom Ol' Monsters, wacky and Texas rigged senko style soft plastics, Rage Swimmers, Rage Bugs, Rage Craws, 3/8oz and 1/2oz swim jigs and occasionally lipless crankbaits. I've had near success with hollow body frogs, so I'm gonna keep throwing them too til it works successfully. Fish all of them as parallel to the bank as you can, targeting cover as close as you can get it in there without getting snagged, on the first cast then fancast a couple feet apart until you get to the side of the bank opposite of where you started. Walk the bank to where your at the spot of where your previous casts along the bank were landing and repeat the process. Do that with each bait you choose until you find what the fish want. Good luck out there, I'm still learning too. ?
