How do you fish the Huddleston swimbaits, specifically the 68 special? 

 

Recently got into these baits and have been fishing them with a sort of “slow rolling” the bottom technique with no luck, although water temp is still pretty cold here. 

 

Also, do you add an extra treble hook? The stock hook on the top of the bait seems pretty small for the size of the bait.

You're fishing it exactly right. It's not a bait that's going to get you a dozen bites a day, but when you do get bit, hold on, because it'll be a good'un.

I don’t add a treble to the Hudd 68 fish it straight up.  I fish it slow.  And as mentioned above doesn’t get a ton of bites but brings in better size fish

Don't add a stinger hook, you won't need it and it will just snag easier. 

 

Cast it out, let it sink to the desired depth, reel it slowly, then reel slower. It's boring to fish, but it gets big bites. 

X3 here with no treble hook. I don't even like top hook any more. I only use 68 weedless.

I like it crawling along bottom, the most action come when you try to reel the hudd over rock/wood/weed on the bottom and also most of the strike happen.

I have gotten more hits fishing it crazy slow but better hookups when running it a bit faster, so it's a moving target.  

 

Are you fishing a ROF 12? 12 means it sinks 10' in 12 seconds on slack line.

If you are fishing blind meaning you don't know where the bass are locating and hoping for a strike it's the wrong lure. You want to do a lot of metering to find the bass so you know what depth to target. The highest % areas during pre spawn are major points early in pre spawn then secondary points as the bass move into spawning areas. Reverse the pattern during past spawn moving out to the major points and stay on the main lake basin during summer.

68's are not a big swimbait and don't need alterations with the stock hook, just sharpen it.
