First time at Pickwick Lake, Tn

Featured Replies

Going next weekend with my new tracker to Pickwick. I’m targeting smallmouth and large mouth bass any suggestions on where to start and what to use? Thanks.

If you are going in the Tenn. area check the TVA web site to see when they are releasing water through the dam and how many gates are open.

When they open up more gates it normally moves the smallmouths to the banks of the river.

Yellow Creek is a decent area for both small and largemouths.

Across the river from it is also good; many gravel and muscle beds hold smallmouths.

The weather this year caused a late spawn for both species.

I was there Monday through Thursday. We had our best luck fishing the upper portion of the lake,

below Wilson Dam.  All of our fish were caught on soft plastics and jigs:  Rage Tail Menace, Cut-R,

Structure Bug, Lizard, Siebert Outdoors jig/ Rage Tail Baby Craw (PB&J) and BPS #71 Tender Tubes.

Any monsters? Was it windy?

3.46 smallmouth and smaller fish including only 3 "keepers".  We were a little disappointed with the

size, but that's the hand we were dealt.

Any day involving a 3 lb bass is a good one in my book!
