Worth it or pass?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I just got offered a 1983 mirrocraft tournament fisherman with a 60hp Johnson on the end.  Boat was kept inside until the current owner got a new boat about 3 years ago. It's been sitting outside ever since. Motor was winterized but hasn't been started since. The boat looks to be in ok shape beyond a little tlc.  There is a casting deck and leaning post on the bow as well as the stern and it looks like a custom (plywood) dash on the starboard side. Were these original or is it most likely he added them over the standard bench seats I see in most aluminum boats of this type?

I'm looking for any information on what this boat may be worth.  It was offered in place of cash for a job I am doing at the gentleman's house. I am inclined to take him up on the trade because I know I would use the boat and this is the right size for my boys and I to get out on the water with.

Any thoughts?

Personally would water test it and give it a detailed look thru. Sitting that long outside is not good at all.

Does he have titles?

He has title. I figure all the wood will need to be removed and replaced, it's not in the best of shape

I am not sure about you but i like to work and get paid and then buy my stuff.  I'd also be hesitant on any boat that i would need to put a bunch of time and effort into to get where i want it to be.  That additional time and cost should also be factored into your decision on if your job is worth that expense.

Update on this, I got paid in full for my work and went back a few weeks later and negotiated a sweet deal for the boat.  Did a gut/rebuild of the interior.  Took about two weeks of after work and weekends but I have it put back together.  Took it out toady for the first time and it ran great. Total cost for rebuild, hull, motor, and trailer $600.  Now I just need to outfit it with a graph and tm.
