More XI5 problems

Featured Replies

Bought the XI5 new in Feb.  First time on the water the gps didn't work.  Took it back in and Motorguide send a new gps.  It was defective.  They sent another, it worked but the motherboard crashed.  After a month in the shop I got my boat back.  The XI5 worked six weeks and now the gps is out again.

That's odd. My father has one on his Blazer for the past two seasons and it's performed perfectly. Hopefully Motor Guide can get you straightened out.

I think I just got a bad unit.  I have asked Motorguide to exchange it but they refuse to.

The dealer closet to me refused to work on it any more because I didn't buy it there.  The next closest, 1 1/5 hrs. away, requires that it be off the boat.  When I tried to explain to Motorguide that I was physically unable to take it off, they basically said that wasn't their problem.

I'd take it off and return it for a refund.

They won't give me a refund.  I have talked to four different "customer service" people and they simply refuse to give a refund or exchange it.  The dealer they say I have to take it to now is a 2 1/2 drive in Houston traffic and I can't do it.  Oh well, they will be old someday.

If the unit is under warranty, MG is legally responsible to make it right. I would call MG everyday until the unit was repaired correctly or replaced. If the have social media pages like FB visit them and post your concerns there as well.

If all the above fails, a call to the AG’s office of consumers protection in the state where they reside, usually gets people’s attention with nothing more than submitting a statement and documentation.  I have seen this work a few times

edit.....the company is usually notified immediately that a complaint was lodged and investigation opened........That’s what usually bring a satisfactory resolution

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. ?

Sometimes the wheel needs to be really squeaky. When I had issues with Lund, I had my son make the initial post on Lunds FB page and then got the help from numerous people on multiple fishing forums to blow up their page. It works

I could make some signs for @Bill Blackwell and head to Attwood first thing in the morning and protest for him? Ruffle some feathers and see where that gets me?

Does Attwood own MG? I thought they were owned by Mercury

Brunswick owns them all. The plant in Lowell, Mi is Attwood and a large majority of MG is there amongst other things.

Interesting. I guess we both taught each other something today. I never thought it would be constructive but none the less thanks to each other we're both a bit smarter! ?
