Sorry, but new to bass fishing, I’m using 20 lb red monofilament line and I’m wondering if it will effect anything?

Yes, casting distsnce, poor handling, action of your lure, diving depth on Crankbaits. 20Lb mono is fairly large line. Most people only use this for big swimbaits, Alabama rigs, or heavy cover. 

Line type some days makes a huge difference and others none at all.  I always use clear, it's a mental thing for me.  Braid users will swear it does not matter.  The lure action and sink rate are huge in my book.  If your working a worm 10 or less will give the best action.  Heavier cover may demand you go heavier line.  One thing to consider is go lite for bites and then worry about completing the deal.  If you hook 3 and break off 3 times you may need to go up one size.  

Going to depend on your equipment as well. Casting gear will handle 20lb mono fairly well, but it's way too much for spinning gear. 

One question so I can give a better informed response. What are you fishing that requires 20lb mono?

 

Without knowing if you actually need 20lb mono, I will say that fatter lines largely do not cast as far as thinner lines, but if casted on a reel that can handle the fatter line, it's good for beginners as the fatter line backlashes minimally (but of course, a reel made for 10lb line will likely cast horribly).

yeah, line effects fishing a lot. Heavy mono like yours will negatively affect your casting distance and the overall feel plus you don't need 20lb mono that stuff is really strong
