Its that time of year again. The Noxen Rattlesnake Roundup is going on in Noxen, PA. Got up there today and took some pictures.

The day I was there I overheard one of the wranglers tell his friend that one of the other wranglers who was out catching snakes had been bit and was headed to the hospital. Luckily they had plenty of anti-venom on hand. 

Tips on how to avoid being bitten by a rattlesnake

 

1) Don't go to a rattlesnake roundup. ?

I would not be a part of the roundup but I would give them a hollow point headache.

That is one big snake. Good thing for the plastic tube. 

 

  

This is how they get the rattler in the tube. They put the snake on the ground and then some brave fool holds the tube down by the snake. That job would not be mine. 

 

dammit bobby! I knew what this was gonna be before I even opened it. Blood pressure literally rising...

Oh it was fun and a bit scary. Hearing those rattles gave me the willeys. And of course there was the prankster who would go around with a twig and run it up people's legs just to see them jump.

Native snakes are not to be feared but should be respected. Sounds like the prankster had a very good time finding out who's terrified of snakes.
