Yesterday while fishing I noticed my striker 7dv had turned off twice. Nothing was loose and it came back on when I hit the power button. Anyone have an idea what might be causing this? I plan on calling Garmin tomorrow.

Often times a 'low battery' can cause the unit to shut down.

Yep probably a low battery. I had that same thing happen on my echomap 73dv a couple weeks ago. Somewhere on the right hand side of your display it should tell you how many volts you're getting. Mine was reading about 7 which made it fairly obvious what the issue was.

Definitely a low battery. Mine would shut off every time I started my engine. Engine started fine but modern depthfinders are very sensitive to low voltage situations. I replaced my battery and it hasn’t happened since. 

It is probably a low battery problem. Several years ago I had a Humminbird that did that and found it was a bad connection problem in the wiring.

Thanks for the suggestions. The voltage never dropped below 12v though according to the display on the unit. All I have going to the battery is the Garmin and a 12v trolling motor on my Pond Prowler. The battery is over 3 years old now. I'll check the voltage with a meter if it does it again.

See if it shuts off just when you start the trolling motor. A momentary draw on the battery could be all it takes

I'll check that out. I've been running this setup since September and it's never done it before. I went fishing for a little bit this evening and my Bigfoot switch died. Maybe that had something to do with it since they're connected to the same battery?

Where mine had the bad connection it turned out I needed to recrimp the terminals on the unit where they plug in to the fuse block. Who ever set it up originally did not crimp the terminals tight enough.
