What is the relation between oz and /

Featured Replies

So I’m at the store right now and i never actually figured this out what is the relation from like a 3/8 oz jig head with hook to like a 4/0 hook? Because i want to try these yum swimbaits and it’s telling me to use between a 4/0-5/0 swimbait head and they don’t have anything labeled with / just ozes

I picked out a vmc shad head and a 3/8 oz kalins ultimate swimbait head idk if those will work

this was the dilema i had these are the baits i was looking at

you might be able to lay one on top of a hook of known size to make a comparison....now that you already have them.

Can't help you with your question but those baits are awesome! My son caught his PB in that exact color with an owner beast weighted belly hook.

Should be able to eyeball them pretty close. Take them to the counter and ask if you can open the packages if you really want to make sure they'll fit, just lay the hook next to them.

Some brands do put the hook size, and TW is usually pretty good about it in their item description, you just have to keep looking for the ones that have the description.

There is no real standard hook sizes, though they're close.  For those baits,, what's more important is the gap.  For those, the Buckeye J-will 1/8 oz. jig head works well.  It's a 4/0 hook.  The heavier jig heads feature a 5/0 weight.
