Identify this lure?

Featured Replies

Trying to figure out what kind of lure this is and if it's worth using. If so need to know how to fish it.

At some sports store about 20 years ago my father encouraged me to try a challenge to cast into a bucket and win a lure. I dont remember making it but I must have been super cute because they gave me this one lol!

It says Norman, it feels fairly hefty and like its filled with rattles. Pretty sure it stinks but cant remember. It would be cool if I could land some fish on it, I never did the few times I tried it.

That is a lipless crankbait , kind of like a Rat L Trap and it works very well. Caught my biggest smallmouth on a lipless crankbait , you can just cast out and reel it straight in or cast out and hop it along and rip it out of weeds for reaction strikes

rattle trap old school. 1/2 oz it looks like

So dont let it sink much just a normal reel and occasional jerk? Deeper water or shallow? I'm new, cranks are somewhat foreign and never heard of a rattle trap

For sure not a Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap since it says "Norman" right on the side.

Best I can find they're call a Norman Rattler.

Bill Norman Lures Lipless crank, you can find them on ebay. They were really close to a Rat-L-Trap but never really caught on as most used the original Rat-L-Trap or Cordell Spot around that time.

Oh, forgot to ask. Do I tie the braid directly to the lure? Im not sure how to do this because theres a split ring at the top.

Tie directly to the split ring. Traps are a very versatile bait, they'll produce from 90 degree water to hard water, great search bait. Brian.

Ok, I was worried about the split ring cutting the knot.

Thanks
