Opinion on the best usage for this rod and reel setup

Featured Replies

I have a extra rod and reel that I'm  going to put together it is a 6.6 mod/fast rod and a 7:1:1 reel. In your guys opinion what would be the best technique to use this setup for?

I’ll add squarebills too but without knowing the power I can’t say for sure.

What rod is it?  There are some crankbait rods advertised as mod fast.

I would call that a general purpose rod.  Not much (other than the heavy stuff) you can't do with it.

This is what's on the rod

Good all around rod.

6'6" heavy mod fast? Big cranks and squarebills, chatterbaits, big topwater like ploppers too.

I've never used walking top water. Would this set up be good for that, not counting hollow body frogs

That rod should have some backbone, it should be capable of walking hollow body frogs too. As long as the bait is heavy enough to be castable it should walk them ok... things like original spooks.

I had a guy give me a couple of original spooks to practice with and I was hoping this set up would be good for that.

1/4 - 1oz suggested lure weight means this rod is probably on the lighter side of heavy.

I would be surprised if it isn't a pretty solid "all purpose rod".
