What hooks are best for wacky rigging

Featured Replies

I'll be wacky rigging a senko. I have 2/0 off shank hooks and 2/0 short shank hooks....can i use one of these or do i need a different hook?

That is all  ;)

I have the same question.  I just purchased Gamakatsu Finesse Weedless Hooks and I have those small rubber rings that you slide on the Senko for the hook to go through for wacky rigging.  I hope to test this out this weekend to see how it works.

These are the hooks I purchased:

I have tried the Gamakasu Weedless wide gap and the Gamakatsu Finesse Widegap (not weedless). The weedless wasn't weedless enough in my local lake which has heavy salt cedar down to about 20'. Also, a size 1 was the largest I could find locally in the weedless version.

I found the Finesse Widegap in 3/0 which I like better and then tied on some cheap ($2.15 for 150 yards at walmart) 50 lb mono to make a weedguard. I have attached a picture (I hope). This has been much more weedless and it seems I get more and better hook ups with this than the off the shelf weedless.

Also, best place I found for the o-rings was at Lowes or Home Depot. In plumbing supplies they have small boxes of 10 o-rings all sizes for $1.29 to $1.97/box. Auto supply stores have them, but they wanted about $.50 per o-ring. They have several sizes, but I use the smallest for Zoom Finesse and Trick worms.

I use Daiichi 2/0 or 3/0 Circlewide hooks.

i use eagle claw weedless in 2/0 or 3/0...but i just ordered some of those gammy finesse widegaps so i may be putting the old eagle claws on the shelf

Another vote for the Gammy Finesse Widegap hooks!

I like the Owner Mosquito hooks in 1/0

Owner Mosquito Hook

All three are great wacky rig hooks.

On a weightless wacky rig I usually use a Gammy octopus circle hook in size one and when I am doing it with a drop shot rig I use a Gammy octopus circle hook in size 4.

I just bought some Gamakatsu Finesse Widegap hooks the other day....i'll be trying out those senkos i hear everyone raving about.

I'm confused on how to present the bait...do i work it slow like a weightless texas rig?   :-?

Cast it out next to cover and count to 30 (make sure it sinks to the bottom) and let it fall on slack line.  The whole time, watch for movement in you line.  After 30 seconds, gently lift your rod tip and if you feel a little resistance, set the hook.  If you lift your rod and there is no resistance, let the lure fall back down to the bottom and let it sit there for a while.  It at any time you line starts moving one way or another, set the hook.  It is a very simple and boring way to fish, but when your line starts moving, that's where the fun begins.  Good luck.
