Lipless Crank Pattern

Featured Replies

Hey all. I make all kinds of lures but I generally keep the hard baits, jigs, flies, etc... out of the forums. I don’t know why I do I guess I just don’t think about them that much. With that being said here is a pattern I just added to my Lipless Crankbaits. Since it’s a new pattern for me I thought I’d get some opinions on what you would change, add, or do differently before I seal this thing up and keep it as a finished pattern I can paint over and over again. I’ve thought about adding more detail and less shadings but then I keep thinking I like it the way it is and the only thing I’ll do is add some small black flake to the sealing coat to add some texture and breakup from all the blended/shaded colors so I stop. Anyways, once it’s sealed this thing will look so much better and any white you see in the picture is actually a pearl green but the reflection of the sun did some crazy stuff to the pictures. When it’s done all the way I’ll post it so you guys can see the finished product if you’d like. Without further ado here it is so far since I can’t make my mind up....

That would be a killer Potomac color.  Killer!!

Thanks guys. Here is one in this pattern that is completely finished. I think my favorite part of this pattern is how well I was able to blend the colors and in transition so that they shift some with the movement of the bait. This will probably catch  my eye more than fish lol.

Wow! That’s amazing, if I could do that there’s no way it would be seeing water

Painting lures in my mind was an easy learning curve when I made the leap. You just have to be paitient, and keep thinking about what the color below the layer you are applying will affect it. Funny thing is I have never sold any of the lures I’ve made and I make tons of them. I make every lure imagine able soft or hard and I only do it for two reasons. It allows me to keep my own level of stock in whatever lure I need, and it is my way of giving back to keep my sanity and faith in humanity lol. The number one reason I do it is to give it all away to children, families, or anyone who looks like they could use a bag of worms, craws, paddle tails, spinnerbait, buzzbait, crankbait, jigs, etc.. I’m he kind of person who keeps to them self and doesn’t talk much until it’s listening and interacting with someone with a story/history. I love hearing families laugh in enjoyment of each others company, vets telling story’s about the rough times they had and how they persevered through it, old friends that are sitting, laughing, and telling stories of the good old days, grandparents sharing and teaching grandchildren about their family history. So, when I see or run into these people at the lakes and rivers I’ll strike up a conversation with them or they will strike one up with me. People always ask how you’re doing at the boat ramp, docks, parking lots and a lot of the time most people avoid others when they ask that question or the question of what are they hitting on and how many did ya get today?, but not me. I take that small opportunity that most avoid and thrive on remembering that people as a whole don’t suck as bad as the numerous times I’ve told myself through the day. I have all the tools, abilities, and blessed enough that I can afford to do this so I do. Dang that got off topic and don’t remember how I got down this far in my reply but I’m not rereading it to find out either. Hope y’all have an outlet like I do though to help keep fishing and the outdoors alive.

Man, that is a great color!  That would likely be almost perfect for one of the lakes I fish.  I need to learn how to do this.  I would make one with a white bottom and another with a dark red bottom.  I bet those would slay them on one of my home lakes.  Nice work there.  Your attention to detail is amazing and your dedication is even more impressive.

I think it looks fantastic the way it is. I wish I had the talent to do that kind of work.

Where at are you fishing? The learning curve is really quick as long as you don’t get bored working by yourself and taking your time slowly until you understand the basics. So when you say white bottom or dark red bottom are you talking like a solid bright white, transparent bright white, or a pearl white? That’s one of the problems with color is taking something from your imagination and making come to life but that’s where I have some of the most fun.

If you sell baits and have a website, PM me. I'd love to take a look.

Not going to tell you how to paint , but red eyes would look great with those colors.

I have all different color of eyes to select from and after trying them I decided they did not look  as good to me so this is what I chose. Besides I make lures quite often so eye color is always an easy change when I feel like I want to change them.

Put some perch stripes on that, and I can go feed the pike!

Seriously though, you got some skills.  Beautiful paint!

Yeah perch stripes would look good. I was worried with the Shad dot it may look a little off but I could turn the dot into the gill marking on perch.
