I am buying shakyheads for the first time. They will be used primarily with soft craw Baits to keep them upright, and other soft plastics. Getting them in green or brown colors is preferred.

 

Do you guys have any you prefer or recommend the most?

Owner Shaky Ultra head is an excellent option - also, comes in green or brown

+1 to the Owner Ultra Shaky Head, comes in the colors you're looking for, in more weights/sizes you could possibly need, and you can find them everywhere so you always eventually find them on sale.

I use the footballhead ones because they stand up better than most. When you see those flatbase shakeyheads advertised they are in a aquarium which is not the real world. Check out the MegaStrike ones and make sure you are using a bait without salt in order for them to stand up.

The higher the concentration of salt in the bait, the heavier it is in relation to the water. A salt free or low salt bait will be more cooperative as it's far less dense.

Salt makes a bait sink and without it a plastic bait will mostly float.

I am a fan of the Mustad Shakey heads. They actually stand up on the bottom. 

Hi, I mostly lurk and rarely post but this is one of my favorite techniques so figured I'd jump in. I like using a VMC 1/4 stand up shakey head with a screw lock. I know screw locks don't get much love for shakey heads here but with using craw fish I really prefer them. I find that I get a lot more use out of the craw using it than just a traditional ball head shakey. I also find I get better action out of the craw with a stand up screw lock. 

 

The next part is the craw. My favorite on a shakey head is the yum Christie craw. They are very durable and I find the action of the claws are more "grub tail" like and will give great action in all types of presentations.  The Christie craws are also unsalted so they stand up nicely. They are also easy on your budget which is always great. 

 

On the down side the screw lock, stand up shaped jig head does tend to collect more weeds and junk in the water. Anything more than moderate vegetation is going to cause issues even though its rigged weedless.  That is when I'll switch to a traditional ball style shakey head with a trick worm. 

The owner ultra head are nice as are the owner football head. However i find the football head tend to hang up more often. They are not the most expensive but can add up when you lose as many as i can lose. The hooks are very sharp and light wire plus the fact that most tend to throw them on light line i usually lean towards the nonfootball style. Good ole Buckeye Spot remover is a good one also. Cheap too.

Spotsticker.  The screwlock is good and small enough for a Pro Senko which is what I rig them with 99% of the time.

All of the above shaky heads are good options - if you are into stand up options then finish the deal with Zman 7" Finesse Worms (Dirt or Green Pumpkin) sprayed with a little BANG garlic scent and you would be good to go any where !

There’s a shaky head bait I remember that the tail stand still up.  Squirrel tail? I think it may be from Big Bite Baits best I remember. Came out a few years ago.
