Is fluorocarbon necessary for jerkbaits? How much better is it?? I use Yo Zuri hybrid #12 for everything else on the Susquehanna River, and it’s cheap!!

Yo zuri-hyrid is what I've used for nearly 100% of my jerkbait fishing and I've been very happy with it.  For the extra "play" required, I employ a medium to medium heavy spinning rod.

No fluoro is not necessary for jerk baits. I'll use it but it doesn't get me bit more than mono or braid with a mono leader.  

I fish braid to leader for almost everything, especially on the Susquehanna.  I'll use a number of different leaders for jerk baits, and depending upon what I can get away with, it'll range from 7# Sniper to 12# Hybrid.  8-10# Hybrid makes a great jerk bait leader on the Susky because it won't get wrecked in the boulders when you snag.  It also may or may not prove more resilient to the surprise toothy critters than anything else similar in diameter.  It's my go-to leader material for almost everything on that river.

Yo-Zuri is a heck of a bargain for sure, and if you're happy with the casting distance you're getting with it, then there's no reason to change. If you wanted a little more distance, then I would look at a smaller diameter line, or at least get some 10# Yo-Zuri. I'm a lot bigger fan of the lower test Yo-Zuri hybrid, probably 12# and under, I don't really care for the 15# I got. But, for around $7 for 600 yards, you can't beat that, it's a pretty strong line.

If the boulders are not too severe I would like the YZ Hybrid #10 lb. better for jerk baits  still using a casting set up  - I just don't like anything but braid + leader on a spinning set up .

Old thread but I think it's worth mentioning... my experience with 10lb YZH is that it has a moderate amount of memory. For jerkbaits this is really undesirable, as you want to jerk the bait and pause it, and have it sit as still as possible. With coils in the line, it will drift every time you pause it, ruining the intended action of the bait. I would recommend something more supple for jerkbaits.

I used 10# YZH on my M/F Spinner last year for jerks. Treating it with KVD virtually eliminated the memory issue.

Just about all our waters up here have pike, musky, or both in them. The YoZuri hybrid line is nearly immune to pike bite offs. Musky teeth are a different story, but the Hybrid at least gives you a fighting chance against them. This is probably the most under rated line in fishing.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid is a GRATE all around line.
