How to keep paddletail swimbaits?

Featured Replies

Just bought a bunch Bps Speed Shads. They come in those hard plastic containers, that are going to take up too much room in my Tackle Box.

How do you guys go about storing these types of swim Baits, like these Speed shads, keitechs, and rage swimmers?

Must they be sealed in a ziplock or something?

Thanks

If the tails are stored bent and take a set they are very difficult to straighten and run true.

Keep them in the clam shell they come in that’s just gonna be the best way. Once they bend they won’t take back their original form unless you dip them in hot water.

I just keep them in a Plano utility box.  I've never had an issue with a tail bending although I've read that some people have.

I keep them in the manufacturing clamshell packaging. It's just something that comes with the territory.

I keep them in the original packaging. If I decide to take one off to change baits or something before its torn up, I will throw them in a Plano box and will often end up using it later as a trailer on a jig or buzzbait.

I keep my paddlerails in plano boxes and have never noticed much deformation.  I don’t jam them in there but leave a lot of room in each compartment.

I don't think I've ever had a problem with paddle tail baits stored in Plano boxes. I have had a few older soft swimbaits that would lose their original shape/performance after long storage and I placed them in warm water and they retook their original form. That may work for paddle tails should they suffer ill effects from storage.

I pre-rig a couple and put them in a standard Plano box, but the rest stay in the clam shells.

About all I use are Keitechs. They stay in the clam shell, and the clam shells are stored in the large, deep, one compartment Flambeau water proof 3700 sized boxes, or plastic water proof "ammo" can style boxes.

FWIW those plastic water proof ammo cans are an underused/overlooked option for tackle storage. They are CHEAP....like $5. Hold a lot of stuff. Keeps stuff dry. The downfall, they are not translucent, so they must be labeled.

Those would be great Tackle storage boxes! Thanks for sharing that ww2farmer.
