A freind of mine is trying to get a job at bass pro. I’m so excited, I really need him to get that job. This could be the best news I’ve heard all week.

BPS and Cabelas are both hiring for the holiday season. It could turn in to a permanent job for him.

Make sure when he talks about his hobbies at work that they aline with yours so his discounted purchases make sense ?

LOL. My wife works LP for a sporting goods retailer. That would fall somewhere between unauthorized discount, and internal theft, depending on their policies. Had someone who was terminated a week earlier try to use her employee discount a couple of weeks ago, the really funny part was in her mind, there was nothing unusual with that. Sometimes we watch security videos on movie night, funny stuff.

In my mind, if I was the manager. I wouldn’t mind if someone used there discount for friends and family. Now I am likely to make allot more purchases because of the discount as apposed to without it. You would think over the course of a year the profit would be larger with a larger volume of sales, apposed to less sales at full price. Idk I would be more likely to make the 45 minute trip there allot more often and could maybe spend several hundred more over the course of the year. Also having him just grab me a few things st end of his shift saves me allot of trips. I’m not trying to get to carried away with this conversation just thinking him being able to save me a few dollars on some pricey lures and ammo would be a win in my book.

Many a retail manager has been fired or disciplined for just such a thing. Managers in most cases have some discretion when dealing with customer's interactions, employee purchases and policies not so much. Not saying it's right or wrong, just the way it is. As far as discounted sales being a profit maker, doesn't work out that way for several reasons.

Yeah, in reality I know it’s his discount not mine and it won’t get to carried away. But he will definitely be grabbing me a few lures here and there on his way home lol. I’m also more likely to make the trip just cause a freind works there. Either way it could be good and bad for me. If he even gets the job, I may have gotten a little to excited right off the bat. In all seriousness I do know right from wrong and don’t want anyone to put there job on the line for my tackle obsession.

I know Scheels here gives their employees a discount of cost +7% to cover shipping and handling... At that point they really aren't making money off of them.

The discount is only good on house brand merchandise.  Otherwise, it's almost not even worth the trouble, definitely not worth the risk.
