Line Weight

Featured Replies

Speaking of a mojo bass MHF 7.1. The line weight is rated 12-20. Is that based on all types of line? What happens if you use higher or lower on it? Could 50lb braid snap the pole?

Most rod line ratings are based on mono. snapping the pole requires exceeding the blanks strength, either through high sticking, or excessive force, or both. Heavier line in and of itself won't cause the rod to snap, but can be a contributing factor.

Exactly, my frog rod is rated for 10-25lb and it has 50lb braid on it for frogs.

Weight? I believe you mean strength as in lb test.

Rods list recommended line size using monofilament line, you need to look at the braid line mfr comparison to monofilament line dia vs braid dia and strength.

Because there isn't a standard to evaluate your rods power only you can determine the rods performance. If the rod breaks you over stressed it or it had a defect.

Yeah that line rating on the rod is referring to mono line test. For your 50 LB braid, that is compariable to about 12 lb mono
