Most drop shot specialists have adopted Braid + FC leader set up for drop shot set up  on spinning reels - how many continue to use straight FC main line for their drop shot set up on spinning reels ? If , so , what brand and size in that 6 lb. ~ 8lb. FC line are you having good *success with ?

 

*Admittedly , I'm not much of a fan of using FC as a mainline on spinning reels (i.e. line twist , extreme slinky effect , line jumps off the reel in uncontrollable coils, etc. )  - however I am willing to try again with the "right" FC line on my 2500 series Abu Garcia spinning reel (i.e. 60 yrd. top shot over mono backing , fill to only 3/16th " from the spool lip edge  versus my standard 1/8" from the spool lip edge , exercise great care when spooling to avoid line twist and lastly - bath the line in KVD line treatment with a rag while spooling) .

I've tried twice to like FC as a mainline on spin reels. I'm convinced I don't like it. Simply too many problems. Braid and mono for me. Others may have some good ideas on FC brands.

I mosty use a casting combo for DS these days, but I used to use 7lb sniper on a 2500 Ci4+ and didn’t have many issues.  The line twist was never very bad and maybe once per 3-5h trip I would stop and push the twist out.  I would use L&L every night before every trip. 

Tried just using FC but now i just use  braid/FC, won't go back to FC. Braid don't have the twist problems and cast so much better.

I use braid on a few spinning outfits but most of mine are still Berkley 100% fluorocarbon from end to end, I don’t seem to have many problems with it, in pretty much any lb test from 6-20lb ( only use 6-10 on spinning reels).

After decades of fighting FC knot strength issues I went back to Maxima 5 lb Ultra Green copolymer mono line for both drop shot and slip shot rigs.

If you fish from a boat it's easy to run the line without anything tied on behind the boat a few minutes at walking speed to untwist line.

Using braid with FC leader is asking for knot failures.

I use a quality 6lb test copolymer from real to bait!

You raise a good point with FC Knot issues - Mat Allen (TB) is a huge fan of Ultra Green copolymer so I will have to try some ... *Are you finding good strength in the 5lb. Ultra Green versus 6lb. or 8lb. for the  drop shot ?

5 lb Max UG is stronger then 7 lb or 8 lb FC, 8 lb Max UG has a lot of memory and needs a larger diameter spool to reduce coil sets.

I used 6lb YZ Hybrid for years.  Now it's braid with 35ft of 7lb sniper.

I personally don’t like the fc on spinning reels, it seems to want to twist up on me. For the times I have used fc for drop shots it works ok, but It still seems like braid proves to be more manageable
