I thought I was done upgrading and buying new gear as I head into a 2019 season that I'm hoping will be the best ever, but nope! Bait monkey really loves to hang around northerners in the winter. 

 

I'm looking at a new small T-Rig and Senko spinning setup. I'm going to get the 6'8" M/F Daiwa Tatula spinning rod. I want to pair it with a Daiwa Tatula LT spinning reel. I'll be using 15lb-20lb braid to a leader. I'm not sure what size reel though. Stuck between the 2000 and 2500. Thoughts?

I have a 2500 I use on a First Gen 6’9” ML Abu  Villian and also on a 7’ MF Legend Elite

It's super light with a great drag

It balances great with my  Legend eliminating all the tip heavy nonsense 

   I would get the 2500 for one reason: it's more versatile if you decide to use different line. jj

For me, the 2000. I had a 2000 Lexa, good reel.

 

As most here know, I'm a 1000 size reel guy. I like the smaller

sizes for bass fishing  

I don't think there's much if any weight difference between the two.  As stated, the 2500 would seem more versatile. I'm a Shimano user myself but I think Daiwa's 2500 is more comparable to Shimano's 2000. I've had my eye on the Tat LT because the only way I can get a higher end Shimano in a 2000 is JDM with a ridiculously shallow spool.

2500 for sure.

Darren, what's your upper end lb. test with the 1000's? I'm using 5lb. PP on mine for winter finesse. I like the smaller reel but have had less than stellar casting distance with heavier braids. Sorry for straying off topic.

I was using 10# Power Pro yellow for years until I bought (couldn't pass up deal)

a 1500 yard spool of 15# PP Super Slick 8....

 

So I find the 15# at 4# mono diameter is *plenty* for all my 1000s. Can't say I

have noticed a *significant* reduction in casting distance. I'd imagine there is

certainly some, but it hasn't bothered me too much (that I know of).

Thanks Darren. I remember now you mentioning those specs. I'm a shore fisherman and distance makes a bigger difference to me.

Any JDM Shimano spinner with an "S" in the #.  Check out Digitaka.  Great prices with shipping inc.

I went with the LT3000-CXH. This is the shallow spool 3000 version. Paired with a 7' Tatula MF rod, it's super lightweight. Spooled it with 15lb PP superslick. I haven't had a single windknot all season and I always have this setup with me. Line lay is perfect. I bank fish enough that I wanted the larger spool not for more line but for better line management and casting distance. This combo is a pleasure to use.

Any reason I should slap a 3000 on it with the intended purposes and rod I mentioned? I'm an online shopper being out in the boonies so I rely a lot on you guys and other online bassers as far as info goes since I can't check things out in store without a hefty travel. 

The LT series is more compact than the previous models.  A 3000, which is my choice, is the size of 2500 series. The 2500 will match up nicely with that rod.

I use the shallow LT3000 with the Tatula 6'6" med fast rod and I agree with you. It's the best medium spinning setup I have ever used. It's so light strong and balanced. The LT's are my favorite spinning reels these days.
