Butt Seat, Chair, Nothing

Featured Replies

Due to medical issues I have to sit to fish 95% of the time, regular chair. It works well for me.

I stand almost always now.  I keep a butt seat in rear spot i can move up if it gets choppy from wind or traffic. My dad still prefers a butt seat most of the time, he likes to lean against it.

I used to keep a butt seat front and rear, but when i upgraded to a fortrex, i added a recessed foot tray and it made a world of diffrence on my stability standing alone all day. When standing like capt morgan on the tm foot, i always felt off balance. Now that i stand basically level in the foot, the seat just feels in the way.

I do stand except for retying or whatever but on my usual long grind days, theres times Id like something to lean on from time to time...that 2nd millenium seat in my previous post is dual purpose with the rounded front to lean but can sit if needed and likely the one i'll look at getting...

the other I was considering is the millenium b300...can sit also but would straddle like a horse saddle...a short vid where gerald swindle talks about it and why he prefers it for rough water (not a sponsor of his either)...dudes a hoot though haha

This is the leaning post I have in my boat right now.  I put a padded butt seat in the back for my partner because he has a bad knee and will actually sit on top of it.

I normally use a butt seat fishing. Now that I am closing in on 68 years old, I am considering going to a chair. I find myself getting off balance every now and then and if wasn't for the butt seat, I might have went in. I think I fish better standing up, but I think I can adapt to a regular seat. I have a fishing buddy that is 80+ still standing/butt seat so that kind of inspires to keep the butt seat. So how do you fish?

50 here and my balance is somtimes a little off. On the jon boat I used a char on a 1 ft post. Between the post length and seat pad thickness I'm guess it was about 17 inches off the casting deck. It felt comfortable and safe. I could fish for hours and hours.

It didn't affect my fishing either; even with the chair, I still didn't catch many fish :laugh7:

Judging by the size of that bass, I'd say you'r right.

Yup ~ I found the same one ~

Thanks

I am a little concerned that while straddling it - which is how I am considering using it - I might also be straddling the Trolling motor tray - which might not be what I'm looking for.

We'll see I guess

I got mine off a swap and sell board but the Rangerwear website has them new the last time I checked.

I removed the butt seat and back chair mid way through 2018 and really liked not having them in the way.  If there is a need to sit down there is still the console seats.

The first couple trips without the seats had their moments,  subconsciously going to lean on something and nothing being there.

The seats will probably go back in for the first full day trips in 2019, until the sea legs come back and standing all day isn't an issue.

I second this. I took my pedestal seats out completely as well as my center console seat out of my Triton. I love having the full deck to move around. I cut out and installed a recessed tray for my trolling motor so standing all day and running the motor is easy now. I also love not having the center seat so that there is now a step up onto the back deck. Makes it much easier to get into the livewell when getting all of those monster bass in and out ; )

I was thinking the same thing. It may be hard to run the trolling motor while straddling the seat. It would not be the first thing I bought, that did not work like I wanted.
