I'm looking for some additional spools that I can carry with me on the boat or to the bank. I have a few set ups and there's instances when I want to switch to straight fluoro/mono from straight braid and I don't want to have to respool. Specifically Daiwa spools, casting and spinning and Shimano spinning.

I get mine from various sources of supply including but not limited to the manufacturer and after market dealers.

When I buy a new spinning reel, I get 1 to 3 extra spools too. An additional option is to have at least one spooled with braid, which you can change types and lengths of leaders.

 

I've not gone with multiple spools for casting reels, as yet, instead having some dedicated to a particular main purpose (i.e. treble hooks, winter, heavy-duty), and the others with braid/leader.

Dont do it. Trust me. I limit myself to a maximum of 3 options per outing. Otherwise you’ll become a collector. Once you find yourself buying a Bakelite spool for an obsolete reel that sucks, just to see how it fishes, it’s time to find another hobby, like testing different braid or crawdads.

Back in the day spinning reels came with 2 spools, a shallow and deep, sometimes with arbors to reduce line capacity. Never had back up spools for bait casting reels, just used back up reels.

Well, I caught a SMB, once, and it was almost as big as the space between those two in the picture 

Speaking of collecting and spool depths, I like a shallow spool for straight braid, and various weight spools for different lure weights. A large portion of my Daiwa reels use 34mm spools... all sorts of options and it's fun to play with them on different reels.

OK ~ 

 My 'spare spools' are used strictly to allow modifications in line size & type.

 Never really ventured into spool weights.

To be honest, I doubt I could tell the difference between various spool weights anyway.

 Guess I'm more of a 'chuck & wind' kind of guy.
