Shimano Core 51mg7

Featured Replies

A lot depends on its condition. 200 USD would be OK if it's nearly mint. I wouldn't think the demand is as great as it once was given the quality of reels introduced since then. That said there is a niche of enthusiasts that think that nothing has replaced the E platform, especially the Core 50 and Aldebaran MG's.

Well, all of my reels are "favorites", but the 50Mg is my Very favorite!  +/- $250 is a good price

for a 9/10. Mine is supertuned and I might sell it for $400...No, probably not.

Big Core fan here. For NIB I would say $300ish. Mint internally and externally I would put it around $250. 9/10 would be $225ish. If it was pretty well used I would say $200 ish. I have not seen many of the 50mg7s sell for under $200 unless they were pretty well beat up.

LOVE THAT REEL ! Got two of them on Shimano Brenious 7.7 gears.

It's just screams beauty on my NRX 803C and 873CCR.

I think I paid - $220 in near mint condition two years ago.

I was looking for one recently, and I didn't realize how much people were getting for them. I am a member of another forum and I bought one on June 29th of 2015 for $230 in mint condition. Now you are lucky to get one for $260. They are AWESOME reels but I don't know that a reel of that age is actually "worth" it.

Some sellers are asking crazy prices for these reels $300+ for a 10 yr old reel, they don't realize you can get a brand

new Metanium for a couple bucks more.

True... I just prefer the small profile. I had a shimano chronarch ci4 that I bought from another forum. I actually sold it right away for a second core 50mg7. The smallest that shimano offers is the Curado 70 which fits my hands perfectly. I have 5 of them.

I was looking for a excellent to near mint used Core 51 a couple months back, the ones I found went for close to or over $300.  These reels are legendary and seem to really hold their value. I have a Chronarch 51E and a Scorpion xT 1001, I couldn’t justify that price used for the Core.

I almost bought one for 210 a year ago. I think it is crazy to pay for an old reel for almost full retail price. I know 50e is a favorite for a lot of ppl, me included, but the hype came from one of those crazy young hyped YouTuber.

I intended to collect all USDM 50e but turn out I only have 2 JDM, scorpion 1000xt and Aldebaran MG7. I can buy Chornarch 50e brand new for 170 any day, but still not so sure if I want it (sold old one of mine for about the same price).

As @jbsoonerfanmentioned “worth it” this is the key. I don’t think 50e platform is a lot better than reel these day. I can cast further with curado 70, comfortable is about the same or close, only 50 is smoother and more control. The best part is you can get 2 of 70 instead of 1 core, and that how it is done now I have 4 curado 70.
