I know these are for saltwater fishing, but would you use for freshwater fishing? Wow, expensive! 

 

Would a non bail Spinning reel work with freshwater fishing? I know most times tension the roller is needed.

The non bail reels still have a line roller.  You can use them for fresh.  Seems awfully expensive, plus they're heavy, and have way more line capacity than necessary.  Overall, overkill.  You want to get a nice reel, and want to break the bank, pick up a Stella 2500.

I got to play with a Van Staal at a fishing show once.  If they made a reel like their SW ones but the size of a 1000 Stradic I would save up and buy it.  They are such beautiful machines, the minimalistic raw aluminum look is so cool.

 Van staal are great reels but they are designed for salt water:  surf casting for striped bass or offshore for bluefin tuna.  Very popular in cape cod MA.

Waste of money. Unless your dipping the reel in saltwater, there’s no point.

 

They are nice reels, though.

As noted these reels possess  qualities well beyond anything a freshwater bass fisherman could ever need.

Doesn't mean they would not work - just major over kill.

However if one ever feels the urge to fish while floating in the lake - them by all means, the Van Staal Is the Definitive choice.

Haven't pick up to touch and feel a Staal spinning reel. The local tackle shop carries Accurate Reels and they have the SR Twin drag reels, pricey!

Definitely overkill for freshwater unless you're looking for some bling and a conversation piece.

Accurate were pretty much defacto reels I saw on the beaches the one or two times I went surfcasting.  An aquaintence of mine is making some really nice stuff, including fly reels: https://www.seigler.fish/pages/my-story

They are built to be 100% sealed for surfcasting.

I own a van stall 250 I use and is a necessity at certain times for me surf fishing bluefish and striped bass (reel being splashed and dunked with water and sand). It is prob one of the worst reels I’d consider to use for bass fishing.
