St Croix power

Featured Replies

Would you recommend tossing a six inch senko on a medium  casting with light cover or step to a MH? More than likely  using 15lbs Flouro.

IMO a medium would do just fine.

Several posters here have noted that St. Croix rods, many of them, seem to be about a half power greater than other rods with the same designation. I have a 7' MH casting rod that is just so, not quite MH but not H either.

Based on experience with the St. Croix rods I own, I'd say an M would be just fine.

X2. No need to go up to a MH for senko fishing, even if you are weighting them.

I'm sure either would do the job just fine. I like using my AV70MF for 5" senkos, and I think it would still handle a 6" senko just fine.

Medium for me as well and it would probably cast a little further than on a MH

My experience with Avid and LTB is you'd be fine with medium in both casting and spinning.

Medium all day love skipping senkos under docks with my 6' 10" M.

Yeah, Medium would be better.

Another vote for medium. I have a MH Mojo and it’s pretty stout .

It depends on which St. Croix Rod you are talking about.  Some of the St.Croix line ups are little different from one to the next.  Personally I think for a 6in Senko, you could use either one but I believe with a 5/0 hook, a six inch Senko weighs about 5/8oz.  That pushes the upper limits of most M rods, St. Croix included.
