How Watching Bass TV Shows Affects Your Spouse

Recommended Posts

Like many of you, I have a spouse who is ambivalent towards bass fishing.  It is not something that interests her, but she knows how much I like it, so she supports my enjoyment of it 100%.  Many days a week, I'll be watching different bass fishing shows on TV, while she is in the same room doing something else.  Until today, I never really realized how much of that content soaked into her head.

I took the day off today for my birthday and went fishing.  My wife said she would go along for a few hours, not to fish, but just to hang out with me & see some of the nature I tell her I see every week.  Here are some of the excerpts:

  • She knows I keep count of all the fish I catch on every trip and what they were caught on.  After I land the first fish of the day, she asks "Do you want me to put that on the Scoretracker?";

  • I set the hook on a fish & it doesn't budge.  I tell her "This one feels pretty big", but as the fight continues, I realize it is just a nice 14" keeper that fooled me initially.  When she gets sight of the smaller than advertised bass, she says "You're as bad at judging fish sizes as that guy who screams all the time";

  • I later hookup with a nice fish, just under 4 lbs.  As it breaks the surface, her voice changes from typical Southern Californian into a Southern Belle and she declares "That's a Big'un";

  • I hook a dink and swing him aboard.  As I catch the line in my hand, the fish comes unbuttoned & falls to the deck.  She immediately says "That will be a 2 minute fish landing penalty".

It was a fun morning...

Sounds like that wife is a keeper! My wife doesn't fish but she does enjoy watching MLF with me.

I don't watch many fishing shows especially tournament fishing except for MLF. Nowadays, we call a small fish a "non-scorable" bass.

*My wife  complains that my fishing shows hog all the DVR space - I tell her that's a strategy so that all her DIY shows can't be recorded - thus it keeps me free of new projects when I could be out fishing !

I don't have to worry about that....this is my wife and I

https://ispot.tv/a/dkQa

I don't watch much fishing,  but, fortunately, she always enjoys it when I put it on.

Must have been some Jimmy Houston along the way, because,  a couple years ago,  she started kissing her fish.....she always talked to them, but the kissing is relatively new

My wife tunes out until someone catches something where she will then say "whoa, look how pretty! God is such an artist". She's not much of a fishermen, but she LOVES nature and animals (pretty much all of Gods creations). When she is out on the water with me, it's required that I let her inspect and admire the fish that I catch, and I enjoy giving her the opportunity to do so. It's given me a better appreciation of just how facinating those creatures really are.

Why does that guy have yellow shoes and yellow fishing rods?

I like Ish, why is he allergic to pork?

Thats the guy that screams a lot. His fish was a little smaller than he thought.

How old is that one? I don’t care if he’s from Alabama, he looks like he’s 15.

My wife and 22 year old son were in the kitchen last winter when I was watching a fishing show in the

living room...

I heard them whispering, then laughing hysterically... I of course stuck my head around the corner and asked “What?!?”

My son had told my wife to close her eyes and listen closely - the fishing episodes sounded like a porn show -

“Ooh yeah, that’s the one”

“C’mere big girl”

”That’s what we came here for..”

”That was awesome” as he kisses and releases her... “See you again next year babe..”

Never thought of it this way before... but they may have a point..

oh my god wow GIF

@FryDog62 my wife says the same thing when I’m watching it.

though she loves to fish to and it always turns into a friendly competition on the water. I love that woman!

@OCdockskipper happy birthday sounds like you all had a great day!👍🏼

She is a keeper for sure. I might have to invite your other half instead, so she can convince my wife the other way around. Lol

BTW, right now Saturday afternoon, I’m at home watching soap operas with her 😭

I usually watch MLF when my wife isn't home, but today I was watching the BPT and when Ike went on one of his screaming fits she said "What is wrong with him, is he okay?" I said, he always does that. She said "That's weird"

So there is what Ike does for the sport.

She knows Ike as the weird guy and Francesco Molinari as the unibrow guy.

The wives have thoroughly roasted Ike and I love this too much.

We don’t have a DVR but my wife watches those shows too and I really “hate” that channel. Can you guess who has to carry out those projects, even if I know nothing? Yup, ‘lil old me, lol. Every time I see her watching, I tell her not to get any new ideas. Building a Wooden fence, laying hardwood, tile, hang a huge chandelier on a church high ceiling, painting, etc. That channel has been a steady source of keeping my honey do list full, lol. Honey do this and honey do that.

I took my wife and son out a couple weeks ago for an evening fish.  I caught a dink and she said "Not a score able bass".  I also had one hit the carpet and she gave me a fish landing violation.
