How early in the year do you start throwing a Senko?

Featured Replies

Be it T-rigged or wacky when do you start throwing a senko? Before, during or after the spawn? Is it at a certain water temperature?

If fish Senkos from my first trips on the water in Spring until my last outings in the fall.

All year, but most of my success comes at 55 degree water temp and above.

I don't ice fish, if that tells you anything. Other than that, Senkos catch fish.   jj

I always have a wacky senko tied on and within reach.  No matter what the season, I will throw a wacky senko here and there throughout the day.  I've gotten bit too many times not to.

I never leave without them, from my first trip of the year to my last.

They're so versatile, there's not reason to ever stop fishing them. They're an excellent shakyhead bait that I use during the middle of winter. The subtle wobble while they're sitting almost motionless gets me quite a few bites on a shakyhead in cold water I have no doubt.

Only fished senkos a couple of times. Caught one fish on em. I must be doing something wrong.

Exactly!

ALL year long!

I even had my buddy rig up a wacky rig using a 4" senko on his ice fishing tackle one day and was able to stick a couple nice LMB's about a month back. Proof that they work year round!

Depends on how early in the year I can start fishing, once the ice melts!

Senkos are a bait that is in the tackle box all year long for me as I use them year round. Different sizes and presentations work better during certain times, but there is always an assortment in my tackle bags/boxes.
