Another "is it worth it?" thread

Recommended Posts

I want to buy a boat. No, I NEED to buy a boat. I found a used one at a local dealership that I would like opinions on.  It is a 2004 Nitro NX 750 DC with a 90hp Merc.  I have only seen a few pics, but it looks to be in really good condition.  The listed price is $11900.  I think it has been for sale for a little while and I will be paying cash, so I think I could get it for a little cheaper. So, what do you think?

They are asking $2800 more than the average value of the unit ($9,110).

Contrary to what many buyers think, cash customers aren't as good as credit customers. Dealerships make lots of money getting customers financing.

If I were interested in it and it all checked out, I'd make them an offer of $7500 and wait for their response.  THEN LET THE DEALING BEGIN!!!!

I agree, it is a buyers market now with the high gas prices. Low ball them on the offer and wait for them to counter offer. I would not pay more than $9000 for the boat.

Hmm...

Ranger has reduced production by more than half, with

more cuts on the way from what I hear. New boats aren't

moving and trade-ins are not worth much to the dealers.

I don't know what the boat is really "worth", but whatever

that number is, I would offer half!

8-)

All they can do is say no when you hit them with about 7,000-7,500. Pick a starting point and get after it. Be sure to leave your phone number when you walk away(And you should at least once)so they can beg you to come back and talk.

Good luck and good hunting!

Good, I hope they all have to eat crow. After years of sticking it to us the worm may be turning. I will be the first to admit that they have priced me out of a new boat for a while.

Sorry for the hijack.

Thanks for all the replies guys.  I guess with the market the way it is, the ball really is in my court.  The more I think about it, the more I am not sure about this boat anyway.  I think if I am gonna get a glass boat, I will want more than a 90 pushing it.

yeah, i would wait there are hundreds of boats out there, you can check sites like ebay and do local within so many miles. you can save tons of money if you're willing to drive a reasonable distance.

i don't know where you're from but in the midwest we have Autorv.com there are tons of boats forsale there, check craigs list too.
