Buying a new boat

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am about to purchase a new boat!  It is exciting, but scary.  I have not ridden in a lot of new boats so would like some advice from you all.  My boat will either be new or less than 3 years old.  I currently have a 2000 18 ft nitro.  I am interested in getting a 19 possibly 20 ft boat if I can afford it.  My question is, which boat brand do you prefer and why?  Right now I am leaning towards nitro or triton but open to all options.  I recently rode in a Phoenix boat that was new and did not enjoy the ride at all.  Maybe someone can change my mind.

The operator greatly affects the ride if a boat.  Don't discount Phoenix based on one ride.  Get behind the wheel yourself.

Phoenix is a solid boat, IMO.  I just made a post about a Lowe Favorite that appears to be outfitted quite nicely in standard trim.  I don't know what you want to spend but you might check the links on that post.

Here is a no vote for Nitro.  I have a 3 year old Z20.  There is a long list of reasons, that I won’t go into here, that will keep me from ever buying another one.  I will say the most visible reason is the cheap carpet.  Mine looks worse than my Champion did after 10 years.

Bass Cat

Phoenix

Charger 210 Elite ( Champion 210 under a different manufacturer)

These are boats I would be looking at.

I am trying to decide between Phoenix and Skeeter myself.

Just purchased a Vexus....no regrets.  Actually had for seven weeks now.
