Frog hack

Featured Replies

Using braided line with hollow body frogs is a definite must.

however, if your using mono or fluorocarbon, you can do well by putting a split ring on the frog, and tying the line to that.

this allows enough “play” to bring out much of that walk the dog action

Before braid hit the scene many years agoI was fishing frogs with 20lb mono and it worked pretty well.  I have converted to 50lb Sufix 832 like every one else, but looking back on those days I was happy with the heavy mono.

I have definitely caught fish on a Hollow Body Frog with mono as well for sure, but 100% use braid now as most do.

On the Potomac I am with you on the heavy mono. I did switch to copoly which I still use today while frog fishing. I like a little bit of stretch on a hook set. I feel it helps protect my rod tips some.

I've been using a mono leader, and tying a loop knot. I like the split ring idea.

OOPS, missed split ring part. I don't use one, but don't see why not except for a poppin frog.

I have been using an Decoy Egg Snap on my frogs this year and really really like it for two reasons.  First, A lot of the areas I fish have varied cover and I will often swap between a walking frog, a dragging frog, and a paddletail frog depending on where I am casting.  Secondly, I have a rod that I really like using for frogs as it is perfect in every single way except for that the tip is not super conducive to walking them, but the snap makes it a breeze to walk pretty much anything clipped to the end of it.

Can’t catch a fish on a frog or toad to save my life.

Not a single hit.

That makes two of us.
