Featured Replies

whats a good jig to use around rock oh yea and has a rattle with it  and stands up at a good angle , im tired of losin so amy jigs >:o , now i know its not possible to get hung up but im sure some r better then others

Chompers stand up jig head with a spider grub and add your own rattle. Does good for me.

If you fish riprap you are going to lose some tackle.    I like Chompers stand up jig head for the rocks.  All the other time I use jig made by me.

check out  Jim Moynagh's Rock Jig at allterraintackle.com.

also, what kinda line are you using when you fish around rocks? if its mono or similar, i would suggest switching to braid and see how that works out for you

p.s.

be alittle more thoughtful when trimming the weedguard down when around riprap. before doing that, ive lost many a jig. :-/

Realistically, there is no jig that's safe around chunk-rock, rip-rap or close-knit boulders.

Because of it's broader cross-section, the football jighead it touted as being the best for rocky cover.

Although the football jig may escape the smallest crevices, it gets lodged in the larger openings

that the narrower ballhead jig or arkie jig may negotiate (6 of 1, half a dozen of another).

When rocks are properly fished, jigs are going to be lost.

Roger....agree on all points.  Just the nature of the beast(s).  Also, I usually stay with mono in rocky environments.  My braid experiences with rocks (not pea gravel or fist sized) has not been good.
