Shimano Chronach MGL | Best Bass Line Option

Featured Replies

Afternoon.  Looking for recommendations on the best line to use for bass fishing paired up with the Shimano Chronarch MGL | Shimano Conquest CNQ 843C MBR.  I come from a fly fishing background, so not familiar with quality lines available for baitcasters.  Thanks in advance for the help.

You’re going to get all types of responses from the cheapest Fluoro, to mono to braid. I personally have 14-16# FC Sniper/Invizx fluoro spooled on my baitcasters but I do have a spool of 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid thats going to go on one of my baitcasters. Basically just comes down to user preference.

There are several questions unanswered here...

1. Is this combo specifically for one application or will it see multiple types of presentations?

2.  If only one application what will that be?  Topwater? Frogging? Jigs?

3. If multiple baits and styles then what will they be?

I'm running 40 lb Power Pro braid on my Chronarchs (an MGL and a CI4) both married to a pair of IMX 783c MBRs. My reasoning is that these are all purpose combos that might have any lure in the box tied on at any given time and the braid covers every application and situation that I might encounter.

Is it the best choice for a crank bait? No, but if I had mono spooled and changed to a jig for a nasty laydown that mono would be a much poorer option. Floro perhaps? Great until I need some top water action, then it is once again the wrong string.

Nope, the 'Swiss Army Knife' approach is what I'm most comfortable with after trying all three options and honestly the best for this particular setup in my opinion.

I have braid on all my reels.  I can’t stand casting mono or floro.

20-65#

Are you going to use one rod and reel to get started?

Yes, using the Shimano Conquest CNQ 843C MBR and Shimano Chronarch MGL as my first and only (for now) starting bass rod.

30 pound Sufix 832 is my go to for my "could do most things" baitcasting reels. I like hi-viz colors like the lime or yellow.

You could add a leader or not, depends on the application or desire to use one.

Ok so if your fishing shores or open water a quality braid at 30# will do perfectly. I’ve liked power pro green for years.

i use Sufix Siege mono in *** pound test for my all purpose rig. stuff is strong and casts well.

trying to type twelve and fourteen pound test not sure why it is censoring.

I run 30-50lbs power pro on all my chronarch mgl’s and then tie leaders when I feel is needed!
