changing trolling motors need new bracket

Featured Replies

I am putting a minn kota terrova 55#12v on my 17.5 tracker. I don't want to drill new holes in my boat  deck and was going to have a transition bracket custom made but wondered if there is an after market bracket for my problem.

thank you for any ideas

Minn Kota offers 2 different brackets that allow you to take the motor off without unbolting it. You might be able to drill new holes in the bracket that will allow you to use most, if not all of your existing holes.

When I took the MG off my Tracker to put a MK on I could use 2 of the existing holes but had to drill or open up the others to make the bolts fit through.  I know the terrovas have different mounts so you may be good.  I have a Maxxum.

If you don't want new holes the adapter plate with dual hole pattern will work, I don't know of a off the shelf plate. You could make a wooden adapter plate from 3/4" marine plywood or hardwood to test it out. 3/4" should be thick enough for counter sink bolt holes for flat head SST bolts.

This may be helpful for you.

I use a model for my Fortrex - comes in very handy.

Thanks everyone I just ordered a piece aluminum and will make an adaptor plate and hope it works.

There was no using the existing holes without an adaptor plate. I am always reluctant to drill any holes in  a boat that aren't needed; I may yet have to but am going to try this first.

When I upgraded my MG TM last year I had to drill new holes, so I picked up flat round vinyl chair glides at Lowes, cut off the mounting spike and cemented them over the holes with marine sealer.  Worked like  a champ and they look nice.
