Minnow rigs

Featured Replies

So aside from the multiple ways you can hook a minnow, how are you guys generally fishing them, what rig?

I went out today, hooked 2 minnows (about 2" in size) up on a double drop shot rig with 1/o offset worm hooks(wrong hooks i know, was lazy). I got 2 decent bites but they let go. I am thinking they felt the tension on the line and spit it out, was thinking maybe a rig where they have the opportunity to "run" with the bait may have been a better choice? Given that its winter, fishing off the bottom seems better than using a bobber.

Can you guys make some recommendation for what type of rig to use and also what type and size of hooks? Thanks!

Are you fishing for bass? The size of the hook will depend on the size of the baitfish you're using. A small slip float is usually best for suspending a bait off the bottom while offering minimal resistance when the fish swims off.

yeah bass. Something the size of a 2" minnow/goldfish is the size of the bait.

what type and size hook? or maybe a better question would be how big should the hook be in correlation to the size of the baitfish?

Slip float is a good idea. What about rigging multiple baitfish at once?

also, when baitfishing, is it correct technique to let the fish run with the bait before setting the hook? Thanks!
