I recently bought my first Daiwa (Tatula CT). I loved it so much I put a Tatula SV on lay-away today. From what I’ve been reading, the Fuego CT is just a Tatula CT without the TWS. Is the tatula worth the extra cash over the Fuego? Is the tatula 100 worth it over the CT? Is the SV worth the increased cost over the tat 100?

I don't know about the SV, but yes...the Fuego CT and Tatula CT are basically the same reel. Only differences are that the Tatula has the T-Wing system vs a standard aperture. The Tatula also has two more bearings...but as they're in the handle knobs, they don't do anything for the internals.

This is what I figured. I may get some Fuegos next once I can sell one of my Lew’s. I am excited about the SV once I pay it off, though. 

If you haven't considered it, a fuego with a Tatula CT 100P gear swap makes a great super affordable cranking reel. 

SV is awesome! Skipping is much easier, and backlashes are almost non existent. Very nice for tournament fishing. 

 

In my honest opinion no the Tatula CT isn't worth extra money over the Fuego CT. It is the same reel minus the TWS system.  The T wing never really showed much farther casting difference than my Fuego CTs. T wing is a little more forgiving with skipping, but I learned on a a Fuego CT. Technique is key to avoid birds nests. The Fuego CT is probably one of the best reels for the price out there. Can be found on eBay for the $60 range.

 Can you elaborate? From my understanding, the Fuego ct and the tatula CT are the same reel other than the t-wing. Why would you gear swap?

100P is 5.5:1 they dont make a Fuego in that ratio. After shipping parts are about $25 straight from Daiwa.

For that price you can just buy a Tatula CT.  Why bother going about swapping gears?

That lews is graphite framed. Id go LFS before Mach Crush.

I'm a two-manufacturer fisher - Pflueger and Diawa for Baitcasters, Pflueger and Mitchell for Spinners.

Agreed - I have one 'plastic' frame baitcaster and I'll probably upgrade it to an aluminum frame reel next year.

Seems you see more and more of these popping up. Lews has several and the new Daiwa's are graphite as well.

 

I guess if the amazon reel companies are taking peoples money then why shouldnt the big players get in on it too?

Not all the new ones. The new CA-80 is an aluminum frame edition in the Cx-80 lineup

That’s my thinking, too. I much prefer an aluminum frame. But this also makes me wonder why the LFS is $99 compared to the graphite Mach crush being like $160. I have two new mach crush’s I decided I want to sell as soon as I tried the tatula.

Yeah I was kind of surprised when Daiwa had graphite reel with standard mag breaks directly competing with the fuegos magforce Z and aluminum frame. 

I have 5 of the Fuego CT reels, it is a good reel. It has a aluminum frame and can be found for $65-80. I've been really happy with mine.

Fuego. Not only because I am a Daiwa guy, but price to performance aspect can't be beat. I did everything from froggin, flipping, punching, ripping hydrilla, and throw a Gantarel Jr. on a Fuego. Held up great. 

 

Daiwa and Shimano have their own manufacturing centers in Malaysia and Thailand. Not rebranded Korean or Chinese reels like the others for the most part. (Steer clear of the Daiwa CG80)

Some people don't like the T-Wing system, but personally I don't understand why. I mean if you are on a budget, by all means go ahead and get the Fuego, but I can sometimes get a Tatula CT on ebay for as little as $10 more depending on the current pricing, and for only $10 or even $20 or $30 more, the Fuego is going to be a hard sell over the Tatula. I would either have to be really strapped for cash or maybe just need an extra reel that I will only use for very limited presentations. As such, I do have an extra casting rod for which I do not have a reel for and plan to alternate with my 5 casting reels, so maybe a Fuego could see some limited usage in this situation.

 

The reason I like the T-Wing is simple - on reels that don't have it, when the guide is all the way on one side and you're casting, it slows up your cast, often quite significantly. On the Tatula or reels with the T-Wing system, that simply does not happen. I do not have any issues with my Tatula reels spooling funny either.

 

 

To me its just one more thing that can break which Daiwa may or may not make parts for in the future.

The standard line guide is has proven itself to be more than adequate.

 

Then again, it could also be that I dislike change and simply don't like it for the same reason I don't like microguides on rods❔

I’ve had no issues with uneven spooling on my tatula either. That being said, I’m not convinced there is any significant gain in casting distance, at least from my personal experience. I’m far more impressed with the magforce Z brakes. But with the Fuego sharing the same braking system and same frame, I began to wonder if the price difference was worth it. Either way, I’m thrilled with my tatula for the price I paid. Worth every penny. 

I've owned all the reels mentioned.  My opinion differs from most. The sv reels for sure are more user friendly and a pleasure to cast. I've owned 3 and they were all louder than I found acceptable and somewhat geary feeling.  The Fuego and tatula are identical minus the t wing which I'm not a fan of. The tatula 100 is my favorite based solely on ergonomics.  The Fuego can be had for 80, ct for 90-100 and 100 for 100 bucks. Being that close in money I'd go 100. They're all fine reels. My buddy has fished about 10 ct reels hard for a cple years with no maintenance at all and they've held up surprisingly well as he isnt gentle with em.

There is only a difference on a normal guide when the guide is far off to a side. On some of my non T-Wing reels, there is definitely is a loss of distance in that scenario, but I can't tell on the T-Wing

I have the Feugo, Ct 100, 150, 200, and the Tatula type R. I like them all.

I have owned a decent number of Lew's reels, and was dissapointed in the Mach Crush. It just feels cheap and unrefined to me. I have cheaper reels from them that feel way more refined. I have actually been a fan of all the stuff I've had from Lew's with the exception of that reel. I would definitely go with the Daiwa over the Mach Crush.

This was my first experience with Lew’s and I’ve been underwhelmed. They not bad by any means, but I wish I wouldn’t have bought 2. I’d still have enough cash to get my Tatula SV. 

Is the Mach Crush made in Korea or China? 

 

For being a China made reel, the LFS still feels decent enough.
