Crayfish/baitfish trap

Featured Replies

So i'm looking to put out a few bait traps this year in one of my local lakes that i club fish a lot. Specifically id like to target crayfish, but possibly any other fish that might be around.

The idea is id like to catch these crayfish/baitfish through different times of the year and document their colors to see how the change or if they change at all. I'm planning on placing out a few of these in different parts of the lake to see if the colors vary.

Doing this will allow me to match the hatch that much better. I also will be interested in seeing their color to backup what i already know of the lake. Early year a brown with orange seems to be key. Through the year green pumpkin to brown do well. An black/blue will catch them, but never seems to be the exactly what they want.

Anyways, i'm wondering if any of you had successfully built any homemade traps that i can do cheap and easy? What have you guys baited them with?

Thanks

Check out YouTube.  For bait either chicken legs or bacon have worked for me

I bought a couple last year from Academy. Cheap enough it wasn't worth trying to make on my own. Did pretty well in the local river and pretty cool to see the different colors on them
