Reel handle - backplay

Featured Replies

So I have a SV105P that I'm going to use as my guinea pig for a full tear down. The most I've torn down a reel to is to clean and grease gears, oil bearings, and change out a line guide bushing to bearing.

I want to do a full tear down, cleaning and re-lubrication on the SV105P. It also just so happens that I get a little backplay on the reel handle, enough that it's noticeable and annoying. Should I just try and clean the clutch roller and collar? (part 83/84) https://www.daiwa.com/us/service/manuals/image/baitcasting/SV105P-105HS.pdf

Is there any other part I should consider looking at to get rid of the backplay?

Just like @BaitFinessementioned, this reel shouldn’t have any back play unlike some old shimano. Are you sure not in and out play? Maybe clean the AR bearing #84 and apply a drop of oil to see it it help. I doubt that you will damage the collar #83.

Is the drag fully backed off when your playing with the handle?

Clean the AR bearing. Soak in a degreaser or electrical rattle can spray. Let it dry. Don't put any lube on it. It can take some force to pop out but it will come out from the side plate /w some effort. Alpha platforms don't have any backplay in the handle. The only handle play they can start having is in and out if the washer under the driveshaft gets worn/lost.

No, normal drag tension

Excluding a bad AR clutch, back play is due to the fit of the sleeve on the shaft or in the key washer depending on make and model.
