Spinnerbait blade type to imitate Bluegill

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone.

I have been having a tough time choosing what type of spinnerbait to purchase to imitate the main forage when I fish my local ponds around where I live. I've heard people recommend tandem willows to imitate bluegill, but also heard that to better imitate a bluegill's vibration that I should use Indiana or Colorado Blades. So I just would like to hear some of recommendations and opinions from you guys.

Almost every pond I fish has bluegill, I've caught some nice bass with a double willow in white, or white with a shad of blue, and nickle blades. Best times are overcast, with a slight chop on the water, although, I've caught them on sunny days with bluebird skies ans little wind.

I'd go with either Colorado or Indiana, or you could go tandem Colorado/Indiana. My most productive bluegill colored spinnerbait is a Strike King with gold tandem Colorado/Indiana blades.

With  bluegill colored skirts I  like gold willow leafs  . If bass are hitting it good then great . If they are nipping at it then small changes are made . If they are not hitting it then big changes are made .
