I ordered a make your own Spinnerbait kit and I have made a few, while testing one at a local pond yesterday I lost the main blade off of it. The others I tested didn’t have an issue but I also didn’t put them In the brush as much. I am wondering if it was the way I closed the loop (even if it was as directed) or something else. Any advice would be helpful, Thanks in advance!

Typo

Look up smalljaws video on hoe to lock a spinnerbait blade.  It is awesome and you won’t ever lose a blade again.

Everything smalljaw does is great.

 

When I first started making spinnerbaits some years ago I had the same problem with losing blades. Try the bends below:

 

 

You'll need round nose and linemans pliers.

 

 

Tweak the bottom of the loop to the side like so.

 

 

Very carefully - watch that fine wire split ring! - "overclose" the loop using the linemans pliers.

 

 

Now grasp the the lower part of the loop and bend it back so it aligns with the wire above.

I'd close it with JB Weld Steel Reinforced Epoxy - apply and shape it however you want for a smooth transition.

If you use smalljaws method you couldn’t possibly loose your blade.

I'm a little late with this reply but I had this same problem in the past usually with piks and smallies thrashing at the boatside. I have since used a small piece of shrink  tubing to seal the gap and haven't lost a blade since. In the picture you can see that the tubing and the blade outlasted the life of the bait. Btw I like the way you make your loops it looks like it would take the tubing better than my hack jobs.

I like the teeth marks on that blade.
