Baitcaster

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I was wondering what I could do to my baitcaster. Im pretty good now at casting where the bait falls slowly. Is there another level or adjustment I could do just for extra distance and accuracy.

Thanks for any info

Those are primarily the province of your rod. A rod that loads better will give you better distance. A rod that's more attuned to your casting style will give more accuracy.

You can set your brakes as well. The more brakes you use, the less it goes far. The less brakes you use, the more distance you can range, but you would be more suspecitble to backlashes if the wind is bad and you have to thumb your spool a bit more as well.

Try adjusting the settings so the lure falls more freely and stops on it's own after the lure hits the ground without creating loose line on the spool.

The next level is slightly looser and using thumb to slow down the spool spinning as the lure approaches landing on the water.

There is a limit baitcasting reels can function using light weight and/or poor aerodynamic shapes. If the lure stops in mid flight and the spool keeps turning it creates over run that ends up in a backlash. When the lure slows down your trained thumb slows down the spool.
