Bdnoble84
1/4 oz? Craft fur isnt it?
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 9, 2020 Super User Share Posted May 9, 2020 What size is it? What size hook is it? Other than that it should not be hard to make, it looks like craft fur in either brown or dark olive with some chartreuse.
Dirtyeggroll
Sorry for the lack of detail guys. An older fishing mentor of mine asked if I knew anyone that could replicate his favorite “finesse hair jig” . I personally know diddly about hair jigs but here is my best guess of the specs after handling the jig: The head is 3/16th ounce - this is probably the only specification of the jig in which I have high confidence. The material, I am not sure - if someone were to make it from craft fur, it would be sufficient. The main color not a solid brown, more of probably the olive or green pumpkin as mentioned previously. The hook size is not super important, anything reasonable will do.
Bdnoble84
Thats exactly what i Was thinking. Maybe a snootie jig head?
Heartland
how many does he want?
Dirtyeggroll
At least 6. if it’s not worth the time to only make 6 then tell me the minimum number you need to make to make it worth your time. Let me know. Thanks!
Heartland
Let me see what I have for supplies, I know I have the olive, just not sure about the chartreuse. I will check and get back with you.
Bdnoble84
I have chart bucktail but no chart craft fur. Also only poisontail hooks are moded lil nasty sickle hooks, super light wire. i can so as many as you like as shown in the picture no problem, just have to substitube bucktail for the chart craftfur. If interested, message me. If not completely understandable.
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 10, 2020 Super User Share Posted May 10, 2020 That looks like a poison tail head, if it is then it is more likely 1/4oz as you said it was 3/16oz. The hook looks to be a round bend and not a light wire hook either. So if it is a poison tail with a round bend hook, it is a 1/4oz and I'm going to guess it is a 3/0 Mustad 32886 or EC 3886, or Gamakatsu 345. I could actually make that jig almost exact but I won't do it without knowing specifics because too much of a difference might render that useless to your friend. It is hard to know just from that picture so there are several things you can do. Ask your friend if he knows any specifics about that jig at all, if it is his favorite he should know at least the hook and head size. If he doesn't know that then find out where he got it from, if it is or was a mass produced product it should be easy to find.
Dirtyeggroll
It was a custom built jig given to him second hand from someone else. I’ve handled it only briefly and it really felt like a 3/16 jig. Although, I could certainly be wrong and the hair + hook size could have been throwing me off. I agree it is not a light wire hook. Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 10, 2020 Super User Share Posted May 10, 2020 It could be 3/16oz but even if it isn't that is a close guess if it is 1/4oz. As I said, just from that picture it really looks like a poison tail head with a 3/0 round bend hook. The head color looks like green pumpkin with dark olive and chartreuse craft fur both of which I have as well as the mold and the hooks. The hardest part is there could be a good chance I'm wrong and with something like that it could be wrong in a way that it doesn't perform the same way.
Dirtyeggroll
If you were wrong, it’d still be a good jig. :))
Super User Munkin Posted May 10, 2020 Super User Share Posted May 10, 2020 My guess is 1/4oz Poison Tail with a roundbend hook as well. If you can take some hook measurements we can figure that part out. Allen

Bdnoble84
judging by the angle the grub is sitting at, it actually might be a mustad 91768 wide gap. I probably have something similar laying around i can put together and see if it it looks the same.
Dirtyeggroll
Honestly guys, it doesn’t have to be an exact copy. Although, if you are enjoying the challenge of figuring it out I won’t take that from you.

This one compared to the one I showed does indeed give the impression that it’s a round bend hook. I’ll get some more pictures tomorrow. Thanks for all of your help guys. I’m learning a lot about these hair jigs.
Dirtyeggroll
After further inspection. I'm nearly certain its 1/4 oz head. The hook afterall does NOT appear to be a round bend. Here is a video:
