I just put new power pro 15lb on my spinning reel. Is there any way to break this line in faster? It’s fairly stiff and has a bit of a coating on it 

Isn't 15 lb about the thickness of thread?? LOL  Seriously I use KVD line conditioner, a few sprays as I'm spooling the reel.  Either way after it gets wet a couple times it's lose it's stiffness pretty quick.

How does the coating and stiffness effect your ability to fish with it? I used to use Fireline which was very stiff out of the box with a coating. I noticed it while spooling it up, but never noticed it while fishing. After a couple of hours, that was all gone but it never interfered with casting or retrieving.

I have never hear of braid having to be broken in.  I suggest you just fish with it and it should be fine.  Boy, that is really fine braid, which may give you some line management problems.    Just me because I don't like braid much anyway.

Just use it, you'll be fine.

Tie on a 1/2 oz spinnerbait and cast/retrieve off a dock for an hour

Just boil it when you boil your mono.

I use 15 lb powerpro on my spinning reel. All I do is stretch it the first time I take it out: Let half of your line or so out while going 5-7 mph (speed depending on rod stiffness), troll it behind for a couple of minutes, and reel it back up. Helps pull any twists out and puts the line on the reel nice and snug.

It doesn't need to be broken in. Even KVD LL will do little for braid. It's limp by nature.

When it comes to Braid I believe every brand is different. My 1st braid that I tried was Spiderwire, it's very, very strong, but very very stiff... don't throw light lures with it. However, right now I'm using Berkeley Nanofil 8-10lb test braid and right now this braid is great!!!!! It's not stiff at all, casts like a dream, strong and sensitive. Very versatile, as I can tie on a crappie jig rig, catch crappie and then switch to a bass lure. So far this IS the best braid for Spinning reels!!! It always stays tight on the spool and NEVER loops up!!

Nanofil is not a braid.

Regular power pro is pretty stiff compared to other braids, takes some time to break in but once it does it’s fine. Take it out and throw a higher resistance bait for awhile like a chatterbait or something, should speed up the process. I much prefer powerpro maxcuatro and suffix 832, much more supple and doesn’t take much time at all to break in. Maxcuatro is the best, but 832 is awesome as well it’s just thicker than maxcuatro but it’s also about half the price.

i just put 40lb fitzgerald braid(which is very stiff right out of the box) on my spinfisher and i’ve found throwing something heavy/high resistance for an hour or so works great

Not boiling - but immersing for a while in hot water will loosen the memory of the line, making it more limp for ease in spooling the line on spinning reels. This works for FC and Hybrid lines as well.

 

Don't soak the reel - soak the store-bought spool before putting the line on the reel.

 

This is not a permanent solution to line memory, just something to aid in spooling up
