Finally got my first “spinner bait” bass of the season

Featured Replies

Fishing a local pond today and already had the War Eagle white and chartreuse spinner bait tied on with a 3.25” rage swimmer trailer and got a small pounder on the fourth cast.A6176AEF-1CA9-4373-BB7C-1C97D51E9EB7.jpeg.1f136c255932f791e1dae07047cd1128.jpeg

Thanks! I have spent the last month and a half trying to catch a fish on a spinner bait lol

Great!! Now what did you learn by catching that fish?

Why?

I remember as a young angler I was determined to catch a bass on a lipless crankbait .I fished it all day without a bite then ran into a local angler who was in the same club as me and who  had a reputation as a good angler with lipless baits on this lake . I told him that I have been fishing one all day without a hit and he asked "Why "  Was I there to catch fish or to just cast a certain lure ?

Good for you! Once you get into spinnerbaits, they could become your new favourite. One of the all time best bass baits you can throw!

I’m not exactly sure what you are asking friend. If anything I learned that a few more color variations may help in spinnerbaits?

I’m definitely going to invest in some different colors especially trailers. I wasn’t sure going in what length or what color of trailer would work but I am definitely more invested for sure!

I haven't caught one this year yet, but I got a couple short strikes last Sunday, and missed another on a ribbontail worm the week prior.

Now that I can take my kayak out, I hope to that will change on Saturday!

What was going around you, what was the weather like, What was the water color & temp. What type of cover was the fish holding on. What time was it. What you are doing is looking for a pattern. If wildlife is moving around so are the fish & they are more apt to bite. Is the wind blowing, if so which way, Is it cloudy or a bluebird sky, What is the water depth & structure. a ditch, point, hump or depression. This way you could go to the other end of the lake & look around for similarities & have a starting point to start fishing. It will hold true on another day also. Keep a log It helps.

Bass have been crushing spinnerbaits for me the past few weeks. How much? They destroyed two of them and I've had to go out and buy more.

I got 7 on the spinner bait yesterday evening. I went out at 130pm and at 430 I was about ready to go beciase I hadn't caught anything.  So pulled into a little pocket off the main lake to put my stuff up, I made one cast ( out of desperation) 9over a grass line and caught one.... between my 10 year and my self we caught 11.  All 7 of mine were 1/2 oz war eagle in sexy shad.  My son got 3 on a kietech easy shiner and 1 on chatter bait z.   We were basically working parallel with the grass line and we were getting bit mostly when we pulled it free from some grass.  Running about 8 foot of water, windy day, basically inside a pocket that comes off a long point.  Bass were holding the milfoil and hyrdrilla.

Well I did get two on a t-rigged powerworm today. Missed a few others due to user error, and had a few more bites from fish too small to eat it. While I did not get any on my spinnerbait, fish were chasing it and they came to the boat where I could see them, so having the spinnerbait rigged up was very valuable in finding the fish -- which is not a lure I would normally bring on this lake, just something I had rigged up and in the hull of my kayak.
