What To Buy?

Featured Replies

For Christmas this year I got this rod/reel combo (6.8 ft 5.2:1 spinning reel). I have $40 to spend on lures, terminal tackle, reels, rods, etc. What should I buy, how much will it cost, and where should I buy it from?

Thanks in advance!

Shop around, and buy where you get the best deal.I would get some plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and a couple of topwaters. Choose your baits based on your rod power and line

I have 10 pound test mono. Are there any specifics that you would recommend?

I would start with some Zoom 4" finesse, and Zoom trick worms. Your color choice. Generic 1/4 oz spinnerbaits whits/ chaurtreuse color. Strike King Bitsy Bug jig, blk/blue. Rebel Pop R shad or chrome. Think things to cover the water column from.surface to bottom.

I've never used a teloscopic type rod before. If it has good butt power, you should be able to use it. If it's a soft action stick with lighter moving baits. Inline spinners, Beatle spins etc.

Green pumpkin is a safe bet for picking a color of soft plastic lure. Yum dinger in that color with a size 3/0 hook will catch fish. Zoom brand has lots of good soft spot plastic affordable options!

If it were me I'd go spend that $40 at Wal mart. Lots of popular lures in the popular colors and priced right.

Well, there's always baseball!

Id go to Walmart and buy a white strike king spinnerbait, a pack of yum dingers in green pumpkin, a couple of strike king jigs one black and blue and one green pumpkin,  a pack of rage craws in summer craw, 2 strike king kvd squarebills one sexy shad and one black and chartreuse, a pack of 3/0 gamakatsu ewg hooks for the dingers and a pack of 1/4 oz strike king tungsten weights. That should come in right around 40 bucks and would cover the majority of situations. Guy I work with fished a tournament with us a while back and this is what he did. He caught several on the jigs and spinnerbait and he and his partner won.
