I'm having problems with a couple of Jerkbaits that are supposed to be SP but actually slowly sink.  I haven't tried them in different waters,but the sink rate is too fast I'm sure it won't suspend in any kind of water.

How can I get them to suspend?? Should I change the hooks to smaller sizes? What have you tried??

Smaller lighter hooks and split rings is the only thing that may help?

I buy most of my hard baits from BPS. I return ALL lures that are defective, become defective or break. I ALWAYS take them in for EXCHANGE, never money back. I have NEVER been denied for any reason. The lure companies, in general, know that they are going to have returns and have no reason to squabble with major retailers. No one is really out in money and YOU should never take the hit.

The problem is, it seems like they are designed to be slow sinkers but are labeled "Suspend". Only found this out after looking around the Japanese forums for info about this lure. I should have read these threads before I bought them....  All of these Jerkbaits are slow-sinkers. There is a floating version as well but I don't have any of them.

Would it be easier to weigh down a floating bait to suspend than to take some weight off a sinker to make it suspend??

These are still kick-arse lures though. Very good action and I've had a lot of success with them. I just wished they'd suspend properly.  Besides, I didnt notice they didnt suspend properly until I got one snagged. Seems like I stopped the lure too long and it got stuck  on the bottom.  ;D

There is a problem with all suspending baits.  The water temperature effects how they suspend.  It is nearly impossible to manufacture a perfect suspending bait.

I have had the same bait sink very slowly, suspend or rise very slowly with changes in water temps.

How cold is your water?  Might be part of the problem.

Could be bad baits too though.

Right.  I threw them in my bathtub filled with warm water but they still sink.....

It sinks pretty darned fast for a SP Jerkbait!!!  ;D Not fast enough for a Sinking Jerkbait, but somewhere in between.... Maybe a tad slower than a 4in Weightless Senko.

3 out of 3 bought sink.... I have gone to other forums and asked around but many consider the slow-sinking to be a feature. Not a problem.....

1st off, what lure are you talking about, I mean exact model?

2nd, try them in a sink full of COLD water, not warm. Water is denser the colder it gets, a bait that sinks in 55 degree water may suspend in 45 degree water. Put some ice in the water, use a thermometer and check the temp. at which the bait suspends perfectly.  Most jerkbaits like the X-Rap, Rogue or Husky Jerk float slowly up in 50 degree water, making it easy to add a little weight to tune it. If a bait sinks in 50 degree water I'll do like Road Warrior, and send it back.

I'll try chucking them in cold water.  See how it goes  8-)
